"The Gift"

9 x 12
oil on masonite

A good friend, who is also our retired dentist, has taken up wood turning in the last couple of years. After eyeing this bowl, made of maple, walnut and rosewood, he was kind enough to present it to me as a gift. Love seeing it every day, sitting in front of a window and watching the ever changing light dancing on the different colors and shapes. I think it was begging to be painted! I'm continually amazed at other people's hidden talents!

  1. Beautiful bowl, and lovely painting, Ann. What a special gift. Is the pattern inlaid? (don't know if I've spelled that right).

  2. Thanks, Liz, for ALL of your much appreciated comments! It's an incentive to try to "paint better". To answer your inlaid question...I believe the three pieces of wood are glued together into a "block", then turned into the bowl shape. The darker walnut pattern was cut or drilled all the way through to the center...not good for soup!
