"Gilmer"

30 x 40
oil on stretched canvas
nfs

This is a painting for our son's new office. It was painted from a photograph on his property in Gilmer which is in East Texas, a beautiful section of our state that is also referred to as the Piney Woods. Overlooking the 15 acre lake has been one of his favorite places to be in that "get away zone" for peace and tranquility. Hope this painting continues to take him back to that "quiet place".

"Row Boat At Rest"

9 x 12
oil on hardboard

Headed to White Rock Lake in east Dallas for a little plein air and spotted this beached row boat "waiting to be painted". The wind picked up half way through the painting making me wonder if that's how the row boat ended up on dry ground...well maybe it wasn't that windy, but seemed like it at the time.
I had been talking to a friend about the Anders Zorn limited palette of black, white, yellow ochre and cad red, so gave it a try with this, but did add a touch of viridian. Limited palettes can be very freeing!

"Sailboats Near the Shore"

9 x 12
oil on gessoed panel

Met several other artists at White Rock Lake yesterday, a perfect day for plein air painting, 77 degrees and sunny. That's Texas weather for you...in the 40's today!

"Red Row Boat"

9 x 12
oil on gessoed hardboard

Packing up with great anticipation for the Calvin Liang plein air workshop next week in the Austin area. Before I put the lid on all the paints, I wanted to try Calvin's suggested palette, so what better way than to experiment with one of his painting subjects. Check out the link above to see Calvin's paintings at the Greenhouse Gallery in San Antonio.

"Sailboats"

8 x 10
oil on gessoed masonite
sold

This is a framed donation to the local fundraiser "Treasure Street" benefiting the Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children. Neighbors of ours helped start the event a number of years ago in honor of their granddaughter. October 22 is the night of the event, here's hoping someone likes sailing!

"Lifeguard"

8 x 10
oil on gessoed masonite

This is Karin Jurick's current DSFDF challenge, what seems to be a lifeguard on Lake Michigan off the Chicago shoreline. The plan was to paint this in the soft hazy grays of the photograph, but somehow the stronger bolder colors jumped onto the canvas!
